When Deidre Blair first moved to Gorham, she knew that this small mountain town was where she wanted to stay. After years of moving around the country, she was ready to plant some roots and grow something creative.
The Three Sisters Gallery is an homage to the supportive creative community in the North Country, and the name – Three Sisters – is a nod to the gardening practice of planting three sister crops (corn, beans, and squash) side by side. When sown together, these crops provide support, nutrients, and a perfectly symbiotic environment for growth – exactly what Deidre was hoping to do in Gorham.
Deidre has always been an artist. Working primarily in oils, she creates whimsical paintings of animals, people and places, and the natural world. Her work can be found across the North Country and beyond, from original large-scale commission works, to the recognizable “Small Acts” sign, which began popping up across the North Country during the pandemic.
During her time in Gorham, she met and befriended many artists in the community who were looking for places to show their art and who similarly wished for a community of support for one another. After years of displaying her work in various spaces across town, Deidre decided it was time to build the space that she and other artists had been looking for, and the idea for The Three Sisters Gallery was born.
The Three Sisters spans a broad array of the arts. There’s something for everyone: From pottery to jewelry to photography to hand-made mittens – the gallery invites visitors to see, touch and enjoy everything in the space, all created by local North Country artists.
