
Imp Mountain / Imp Shelter Hike (via Stony Brook Trail)
Imp Mountain is part of the Carter Moriah Range, and is flanked to the North by Mount Moriah, and to the south by North Carter Mountain. The hike up to Imp Mountain from the Stony Brook Trailhead offers a rewarding challenge and chance to experience a number of hiking features, steady incline, water crossings, and more. The Stony Brook Trail travels 2.4 miles up to meet the Carter Moriah Trail. To the left (north), Mount Moriah summit in one mile. To the right (south), Imp Shelter and Imp Mountain.

Parking
There are various access points for Imp Mountain / Imp Shelter. Two of the more common parking areas are the Stony Brook parking area off Rt. 16 (preferred for Imp Shelter), and the Imp Trail parking areas, which are two separate trailheads, both along Rt. 16, about .3 miles apart. Each has a gravel pullout, accomodating a limited number of cars.
