Thompson Falls

The Thompson Falls Trail is a 1.4-mile out-and-back hike located near Wildcat Mountain in NH. This beginner-friendly trail offers a gradual 250-foot elevation gain and typically takes around 30 minutes to complete. Starting from the Wildcat Mountain Ski Area parking lot, cross the footbridge over the Peabody River and follow signs for the Way of the Wildcat Nature Trail. After a short walk along the river, you’ll find the trailhead for Thompson Falls.

This scenic trail features a series of cascading waterfalls, each offering something unique as you follow Thompson Brook. The lower cascade is particularly impressive, fanning out into a pool that’s perfect for relaxing and enjoying the view. As you ascend, you’ll discover a variety of water features, from tall drops to gentle water slides. At the trail’s end, there’s a glimpse of Mt. Washington through the trees, rewarding hikers with a scenic vista.

Thompson Falls is a wonderful spot for a quick adventure, birdwatching, or even a picnic. The trail is open year-round, and dogs are welcome on a leash. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, this hidden gem is worth exploring!
