Experience Gorham Off the Trail!

It’s a well-known fact that Gorham is a trail town chock-full of AT thru-hikers, day hikers, bikers, OHRV-ers, and folks generally looking to get outside and play. But when it’s time to take a little time off the trail, what’s there to do?

Depending on the season, Gorham has a lot going on with more than just a few great options to keep you entertained.

The Medallion Opera House

Way back in 1915, the Medallion Opera House – located in the Gorham Town Hall building – opened its doors to screen some of the very first motion pictures (for a show-stopping fifteen cents a pop!). Generations later, that legacy of entertainment continues at the architecturally interesting, 400+ seat venue. The Medallion hosts live music, comedy shows, kids entertainment, art exhibitions, and many other community-minded events throughout the year. If you’re planning a visit to Gorham, be sure to check out the website to see what’s happening and to purchase tickets in advance.

P.s. When you walk in, be sure to look up to see the namesake of this historic space: An 8-foot ceiling medallion!

Moose Tours

Have you ever seen a moose before? If you answered “no” (and for most folks, that’s the case), then here’s your chance to catch a glimpse of one of the North Country’s most charismatic creatures.

Gorham’s moose tours will take you on an unforgettable and educational 3 to 4-hour tour to search for moose and other elusive North Country wildlife. Experienced local wildlife guides know just where to look, and work to ensure that you’re safe and sound in the comfy tour buses. With 17 years of experience and a 93-97% successful moose-spotting rate, you’re sure to have a great time and bring home some pictures of furry photogenic subjects.

P.s. Don’t forget to get your moose merch! Merch or it didn’t happen, right?

Winter Skating and Warming Hut

Outdoor town skating rinks are a cozy throwback to simpler times when all you needed was a pair of skates and a place to slide around for a few hours. Fortunately, Gorham still maintains this iconic relic of slippery winter recreation, and it is open for all to enjoy when the weather is downright chilly (in other words, perfect skating weather!). There’s even a warming hut where you can thaw out your fingers and toes. Do note that sticks and pucks are only allowed if the rink is free of skaters, and/or during specifically outlined hockey times. If a skater would like to use the ice during open skate hours, sticks and pucks must leave the rink.

To find the outdoor rink, head south of the junction of Route 16 and Route 2 to Libby Pool, and park in the Libby Pool parking area. The rink is just beyond the parking area toward the river.

Summertime Outdoor Music Series

When the days get longer and warmer, doing as much as possible outside is status quo around here … And that includes musical entertainment!

Every summer from June through September, Gorham hosts live music on the Town Common. From rockin’ jams to mellow acoustic music, all are welcome to boogie down or bring a lawn chair and enjoy the evening while listening to free live music. Most music happens on Thursdays and Fridays, but be sure to check the Summer Park Program Info schedule to plan your play date!

P.s. Why stop at the music schedule? Read all about the rest of Gorham’s Summer Park Program Info schedule for guided hikes, fishing derby info, and other events and activity dates!
